I think Im being scammed!
Hey all
I am very new in this au pair thing and i DESPERATELY need some help.
A few days ago, I got an email from a "family" from Nigeria. They offer excellent salary to look after a boy of 3 years. But now I need 2 pay a fee for my work permit of 490 US dollars. It seems a bit strange.
Has any of you had a similiar experience? I cant find them on the family profile list!
I would really appreciate any help I can get.
Thanks
Bienks

Hi Bienks,
Unfortunately they are some people who abuse of girls and boys who wanna become au pairs or nannies in sending these kind of messages.
I wrote two differents posts about this issue:
https://nannyaupairworld.forumotion.com/Your-host-family-f12/SCAM-WARNING-t406.htm
https://nannyaupairworld.forumotion.com/Websites-for-nannies-au-pairs-and-organisms-f10/Be-Careful-t6.htm
I wanna if you have recognize your case in these posts. If it's the case you've been certainly scammed and in this case forgot this family immediatly.

Re: I think Im being scammed!
Hi again!
Well, you definitely don't have to pay for anything. Any "family" who asks for money is a scammer.
You can find further information here:
http://www.newaupair.com/stay_safe_aupairs.aspx
Most of the scammers come from Nigeira or Cameroon, so be extra careful regarding these two countries (but they can come from other countries as well...).
Don't forget that you're not to send any document either, especially copies of passeport or other official documents.
Just don't answer any further mail they might send you.
Thank you very much to the New Au Pair team for all the information and for working hard deleting all the scammers account they can find!
Bienks, if you have other questions or need help, just ask!
Good luck!!!

Re: I think Im being scammed!
Im sorry, this thing keeps flashing to say introduce yourself but WHERE do you do that....
anyways, i had a similar experience also from a Nigerian family but i sent it the aupair website as they were asking for money upfront. dont worry they were deleted as they were scammers. Be careful as i actually get quite a few of these and they're not always from Africa. i had some international requests from scammers too.

And if it's a British family? I get quite a lot letters directly to my email from British families, offering fantastic salaries, good conditions.. I can't find them on aupair websites. Some of them ask to contact particular travel agencies (but never asks to send money). Could they be scammers?
